Project Management Professional Examination Preparation Bootcamp (PMP) Advantage

Credentialing is usually placed on the back burner until projects are nearing wrap up or rumor of termination. Seeking a registered education provider would be the 1st task that an aspiring PMP would need to look for in determining a training company. A registered education provider is a company that has been evaluated by PMI and complies with their strict standards on delivering top quality education that support their standards.

Most project managers have to make the investment themselves in further training or obtaining education hours to get the PMP credential which proves their worth. Usually if a career move is considered outside their existing employ with another company they would have to become credentialed. Finding time for extensive project management training may not be an option for a busy project manager. Seeking the credential substantiates the claim of understanding and proving effective application of project management concepts. Credentialing also validates dedication to the profession and proves understanding of the standard. A thorough course can be a dedicated 3 day to 5 day course covering the main areas or domains of project management and integrating the domains within process groups. Some preparatory work must be performed in advance and participants must be introduced to content in a light way before attending a 3-5 day intensive course. The training course should cover basics or what many may call fundamentals or framework. The other areas are the commonly referred to "triple threat" which is the management of scope, time and cost. Also project quality management, project risk management, project communications management and project procurement management are areas that must be covered. In addition to the management areas the way these areas are integrated and combined in a project are covered by the 5 process groups' which are initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling and closing.

The course needs to add value to the participants by clarifying the difference between applied business operations and managing projects. The course should also thoroughly address elements in the project management body of knowledge (PMBOK) pertinent to the PMP exam. The course also demystifies concepts presented on exam in objective format based on real world experience and formulates the concepts into theory suggested by PMI in PMI "isms" for the success of passing the credentialing exam.

Just like regular military bootcamp identify physically weak areas a potential soldier will encounter so does the exam prep bootcamp. The examination preparation bootcamp identifies weak areas of project management theory often assumed and misunderstood. Learning the correct theory applied in the form of case studies and role plays and exercising the brain by answering questions related to the theory directly aligns with the military bootcamp concepts which are executed through constant exercise, routine and explanations. Upon completion of the bootcamp participants and aspiring project managers will be familiar with the PMI theory of project management hence ready to pass the PMP exam. Passing the PMP certification exam proves one can handle a tough certification and join the ranks of affiliated accomplished individuals within the profession and it proves to oneself they belong.

Many people who have worked as Project Managers, but have never taken the test to obtain their PMP Certification, believe the test will be a breeze. How wrong they are! Just by working in the project management field, one will not gain the necessary knowledge to pass the exam. Why take the test? People have many different reasons for taking the PMP Certification exam - job requirement, education, trying to move up the corporate ladder, etc. For me, it was a way to improve my knowledge of the project management strategies and increase my income by being a certified PMP. The Project Management Institute has very specific standards they expect Project Managers to adhere to professionally and ethically. The PMP certification exam is a test to determine whether the individual taking the exam fully grasps the guidelines for managing projects. So, how do you successfully pass the Project Management Professional Certification exam? Following are 10 tips that helped me pass the exam on my first try:

Read the PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge) at least three times. This may be a struggle as it is not the most exciting book to read, but as the saying goes, three times the charm.
Pay attention to the bullet points in the PMBOK. These items are being emphasized for a reason.
Definitely read the following chapters of Harold Kerzner's book "Project Management: A Systems Approach To Planning, Scheduling and Controlling":
Contracts and Procurement
Quality Management
Rita Mulcahy has several books that are excellent learning tools for passing the exam.
Know the Earned Value Management System.
Understand the flow and interactions of the process groups and knowledge areas.
Take as many practice tests as possible.
If you can afford it, take an exam prep class offered by one of PMI's authorized providers.
Try not to overdo reading too many books on project management. This tends to fill your head with way more information than you really need to pass the exam.
Always remember Project Managers are to hold themselves to the highest ethical standards.

How to Become a PMP Certified Project Manager

One of the best questions I like to be asked is, "How do I get certified as a project manager?" I love to talk with someone who is committed to PM. However, there's a little confusion in the market about what qualifies as certification, and what's required to become certified. There are universities or colleges that offer a PM certificate, and therefore people think maybe they become certified in those programs, but that's not actually professional certification. There are two certifying bodies: the PRINCE2 organization, which we will talk about in another article, and the Project Management Institute, which I want to focus on here.

Where Can You find the Criteria for Certification?

The Project Management Institute, better known as PMI, and on the web at pmi.org, is a certifying entity that offers a credential called the Project Management Professional. Managers will often follow their name with PMP; this means they are certified. To qualify for the credential, applicants must meet a number of requirements. I often get calls from people who want to change fields and work as a project manager but don't have certification. It actually works in reverse; to be eligible for certification PMI requires that project management experience before you can earn your certification. That's where some of the confusion really begins. The clearest point of reference you should always look to is the most current version of the Project Management Professional Handbook, available for download at PMI.org. It details everything you need to know about certification-how to get it, how to qualify, and once you do become PM certified how to maintain your credentials.

What Level of Education Do You Need?

Eligibility is based on three areas: education, PM experience and formal project management education. PMI divides education into categories because it is an international organization with chapters all over the world, and recognizes that some people may have gone to college and some haven't. First identify which category you fall in, starting with education background.

For those who have a secondary degree, meaning a high school diploma, an associate's or the international equivalent, the PM experience required is a minimum of 7500 hours (5 years/60 months). In addition, you need 35 contact hours of formal project management training based on PMI's standards as outlined in the PMBOK guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge). Testing comes directly out of that formal training, and the contact hours represents physical contact with instructors. Many online programs do not qualify as a result.

If you have a four-year bachelor's degree or the global equivalent, some of the training you received earning your degree counts towards eligibility requirements. A minimum of 4500 hours (3 years/36 months) of PM experience is required in addition to 35 contact hours of formal education.

Hands-on Experience a Must!

In addition to the education and practical experience required, you also need to have managed projects from beginning to end. If neither your experience nor education qualifies you for credentialing, there is an alternative certification that you can learn about in the handbook on the pmi.org site: the CAPM, a certification earned prior to or as you are preparing for the PMP certification.

I'm excited for those of you who are on this path. We've found that credentialing helps job applicants stand out to employers, and it certainly trains you to manage projects better.

PMP exam tips to help you become a certified project management professional

The main medical examination (PMP stands for Project Management Professional) is administered by the Project Management Institute (PMI), a U.S. based non-profit organization. The review covers six domains of project performance: i.e. beginning of the project, project planning, implementation of projects, project tracking, close the project and last but not least, social and professional responsibility.

The main medical examination is not the only consideration of project management you can do. There are many others available. However, the growing popularity of this certification is attributable to its growing credibility, as evidenced by holders of the certification of PMP have successfully put to use in environments of real project organization teach principles. Currently, there are more than 350,000 certification PMP holders spread around the world.

It would be difficult to ignore the direct financial benefit and the progression of career that presents to achieve certification. The results of project management careers market research have shown PMP certification holders earn on average little more than $ 90,000 a year.

The people who pass the PMP Exam are also perceived as having demonstrated an understanding not just project management techniques, but the general management principles that would be needed if one were responsible for higher levels of responsibility. The level of visibility that attract successful projects of top managers is more reason why the PMP exam is widely respected.

If you are considering taking the PMP exam, it is important that you see that the test is not easy. At the very least, time should be reserved for read an extensive manual not only PMBOK (Project Management Body of Knowledge), but other associated books on project management.

Attend the meetings of classroom that will carry through the work of course would be ideal. However, the realities of the middle of hectic work most of us have to deal with media which for some, personal study might be the most practical one can study for the test. The approach of the self-study can be complemented with joining a local study group where they can share ideas and clarify issues that you might have comprehension difficulty when only.

There are also a number of online resources that can be used. One of the most effective approaches is to take one or more free or paid examination of practices online. These exams test will serve not only to test their understanding of the content of the course, but also increase their confidence to give an idea of the format and style of questions that you should expect in the real test of PMP.

For this reason, is it considering as stressful (PMP) project management professional certification?

This quota may be increased by changing the MaxStringContentLength property on the XmlDictionaryReaderQuotas object used when creating the XML reader. Line 4, position 1702.

Projects themselves can be stressful juggling all the many demands with constraints. Going after the project management professional (PMP) certification can be just as stressful if not more. The reason being is because projects obtain high visibility usually and failure sometimes results in loss of employment or a demotion. In the reality TV show, "The Apprentice" a picture is painted to the world that project management is difficult and quick. In the T.V. show; Donald Trump fires the project manager on a losing project team in a competitive environment. Usually real world is not like that because project teams do not compete except to obtain resources to help with project objectives. Oftentimes, TV can be misconstrued with reality, hence the word reality TV. Maybe the show has somewhat influenced the corporate world, in a sense that project managers may gain tactics or practices from watching the shows. Back to real world reality when taking on an adventure professionally one wants to be successful. As a matter of fact success in the professional environment confirms the Maslow's theory of self actualization which the practice of project management embraces.

Project managers gaining success in managing projects find little time to prove it through certification. Usually taking the time to prepare for such an intense exam becomes a nuisance in itself. The intricate details of the exam does not test ones experience instead it tests theories of managing projects. The correct answer choice when answering the objective test questions are based on the standard practice and theory and not experience, although one must have experience in order to take the credentialing exam. Accomplishing success working a project usually is achieved by any means necessary and theory goes out the mind, body and soul in desperate times. However the caveat to it all is the theory is based on a proactive approach to the art and science of Project Management. If project managers embrace the theory that can be proactive with improved skills. Successful practitioners are usually stressed due to monitoring and tight controls on their projects to eliminate huge problems. Assertiveness is a true personality trait that PM's must possess to influence others to do their jobs well. Juggling stakeholders expectations, identifying and analyzing risks and gathering requirements takes skill and time.

More than anything the stress endured or undertaken when considering PMP® certification is self-imposed. Typically the mind is overwhelmed with thoughts of taking the PMP® as being irrelevant. Thinking about taking the exam must be weighed against a measurement of how much formal reading of the PMI® methodology encountered. Also understanding the correct version of materials developed to help prepare, taking the exam within the deadlines of material expiring. When individuals are convinced that the information is too difficult and overwhelming it becomes their truth and reality. Having a strong support system is the key to getting through this challenge. Many times others that have failed the exam give fearful information describing the experience which become a turn off for many of the most competent. Misunderstood expectations regarding the complexity and casual preparation of the exam has been a known factor that promotes failure. All the concepts and knowledge areas are actually practiced by professionals however they often use a different syntax to describe their efforts. Using the PMI® methodology and syntax is the only way to be successful in passing the exam. Taking the steps to accomplish a certification goal should be managed as a project. It is simply a project within the product life cycle of the professional pursuing it. A solid plan must be engaged and implemented to reduce the stress and influence the factors that foster success in taking and passing the PMP® exam.

Speaking to countless professionals over time have uncovered that many of them postpone their test and training even after applying to the Project Management Institute (PMI)® to take the exam. Some have to restart the process over again from start to finish due to timing required for adequate preparation. Many project and work demands do not lend itself to lengthy preparation to excel on the PMP® exam.

Cram courses are the best option it saves time for the individual. A PMP® exam prep bootcamp gives practical knowledge but the best accelerated learning preparation to prepare to pass the PMP® Exam on the first try. Fears are eliminated when students take the PMP® Bootcamp Course because they are given exactly what they need to know to be successful on the exam. Participants are infected by a strong shot of confidence and stress relievers going into the exam preparation environment. The bootcamp formalizes the knowledge according to how the test questions should be interpreted so participants are successful in answering the questions.

The concepts must be perceived in proper context according to the PMBOK®; it is the best way to get rid of the stress and be confident in passing the PMP® exam. Confidence comes with adequate preparation and thorough studying. Being clear on what the processes are to manage projects according to the standard. Also knowing the structure of organizations and how project management is affected in each. One must know the different life cycles in project management and the distinct differences among them. All domains and knowledge areas and the process groups they are categorized with according to the methodology are all keys to success in the exam and covered in the bootcamps. The PMP® is the most recognized and popular certification offered by PMI®. Joining PMI® is an important benefit also for a project manager considering PMP® certification.

A common misconception that leads to additional stress and frustrations by practitioners considering certification is the myth that a class will be the only source of winning. It does not stand alone there is some due diligence of studying needed and it is still important even for busy project managers on huge projects. Time for oneself should be advocated for and utilized to plan for pre-study before a bootcamp.

There are a few steps one can follow to prepare in advance for a bootcamp class:

Take a simulated PMP® Exam to identify gaps in PMP® knowledge.
Prioritize studying according to the results from the simulated exam from weakest to strongest.
Master one area by reading the PMBOK® for that area and taking practice test questions.

Trust the process and methodology of the bootcamp course so that efforts are not useless. Preparing for the PMP® exam does not have to be stressful. There is adequate help out there especially when enrolled in the right course with the right instructor. Reach out to mentors for assistance, search the web, read blogs, prioritize things of importance and study to get ready for the PMP® credential. Maintaining high productivity on projects and passing a rigorous exam can be quite challenging especially when there is an expectation to balance family life, personal life and make great money. Take it all into perspective a quick time redeemer is worth it, just enroll in a bootcamp.

Professionals with children can get easily stressed out but Project management is really a way of life. If life is managed like a project with the appropriate actions well planned and monitored for effectiveness it would eliminate many stressors. When we have a rushing mentality, operate reactively, because things are rushed and not well thought out; it increases stress therefore triggers health issues. Many project managers find themselves with stress enduced health issues. It can be avoided or mitigated by becoming a methodical planner and learning quickly with an action plan from prior mistakes or problems. Planning and preparation are the main ingredients to reduce stress and anxiety when approaching an endeavor.

Certification of management of project - the shortest route to pass the PMP exam

It tends to go to meetings of PMI chapter for some reasons. These meetings will help me build my network. In addition, it is a great way to share our experiences. In addition, you will receive credit for attending the meeting which can be used for the recertification. In one of the meetings, the President presented to professionals, who recently received PMP certifications. At that meeting, one of the participants was a PMP certificate asked how they felt about the examination of these guys and have faced difficulties in preparing the review. The newly certified PMPs said that review was not too difficult because they used mock exams before you try the real test. Hearing this, rang a shot in my mind, and an article on mock PMP exam was forced to greatly help PMP aspirants.

Project Management Institute (PMI) is the leader and the most recognized organization in the promotion of best practices of project management. The PMP and CAPM examinations are gaining much popularity and demand in all business areas and have become standard industry for project management certification. In January 2010 there were already 90,000 PMPs and 25,000 CAPMs, and the number is increasing at an exponential rate. The PMP ® exam is a test question multiple choice of four hours. The review focuses on the knowledge of the candidate's project management and the capacity of the candidate to apply that knowledge in many scenarios and different situations. A score of 61 per cent is required to pass the exam. The examination has 200 questions, of which 25 questions are considered issues "prior". This means that you'll really have to answer right questions 106 of 175 questions live. Despite the expression "pre-test", these issues are sown in the review to prove their worth to the future examination questions. They do not count against you, but you won't know if you are answering a question live or a previous question. These tests are not free. You have to pay a lot for the review and also in the event that someone has to take the exam, I've included the rates for these tests for your reference. PMP exam for a PMI member: $405; For a member not PMI PMP Exam: $555; PMP reexamining for a PMI member: $275; Reexamining a member not PMI PMP: $275; CAPM exam for a PMI member: $225; A member not PMI CAPM examination: $300; CAPM reexamining for a PMI member: $150; Reexamining a member not PMI CAPM: $200.

Now, let's go back and critique of the strategy of preparation that had used the newly certified PMPs. It seems to me that they used the strategy to prepare for the exam. I think they took a preparation course, passed by the PMBOK Guide; He spent a few days to review the maps of processes and formulas; they took tests drills to access at your disposal and weak areas; improvement of the areas where they found were weak; the real test and it passed the exam at the first attempt and saved the repetition rate. I have carried out surveys of survey in some blogs PMP, and the result showed that most of the certified PMPs has used tests drills before writing the actual test. Also PMP blogs and receiving input from PMP Certified Professional also can help to understand the areas where you need to concentrate and to find the shortest route to pass the test. Not me this opportunity when I wrote the review a few years ago. They are now available for candidates who wanted to become PMPs more information & opportunities. The only thing is that they have to take advantage of these opportunities to pass the exam.

Good luck in your exam!

Project management certification is worth?

Usually someone makes a "good" project manager what his experience, the fact that have made mistakes and learned from them in a real project environment and which has achieved success in a real project environment. Experience in a number of projects and, more particularly, in complex projects never can be estimated low. But nor can the right kind of academic preparation and relevant training. A project with the appropriate credentials manager as one with a PMP certification is not necessarily better leading and directing projects, but the rating is an indication of how serious is this person to be recognized as a professional. This in itself is an indication of unity and determination to succeed, which are qualities that are much more likely to contribute to a successful project and a successful career.

Of course, it is true that some organizations actively encourage employees to obtain the certification, and some even insist on it. They provide the opportunity, funding and time outside the Office to achieve this goal. Some companies even offer salary rises for people to obtain PMP certification. But there are also many smaller organizations, success that not put so much emphasis on these credentials recognized industry which may be for cultural reasons or simply for lack of training budget. This may be changing however, as project management moves more towards being recognized as a profession in the way that accountants and law are with its emphasis on qualifications and continuing professional development.

There are many experienced project managers who argue that they have proved their worth with academic qualifications and other relevant qualifications during the years of his career, not to mention his extensive experience, so why you might be interested in still more credentials. One of the reasons is that of continuing professional development, and another, this increasingly important reason the advantage when it's career prospects improved.

Why it is worth obtaining a PMP certification?

PMP certification is an indication that a new employer that you have the proper amount of training and relevant experience and have sufficient knowledge of the PMI body of knowledge and more general principles of project management to pass the exam. Strict requirements for the test means that this is not only a credential paper - only can take the test if you can demonstrate that it has between 3 and 5 years of practical experience in implementing projects.

Therefore the fact that many employers put a lot of weight in this credential is understandable. Many organizations still not interviewing people without this designation, which may be unfortunate for many highly successful people who previously did not have the need for this type of credential. For example is a project with a b.s. and Manager and practical 10 years of experience in a less suitable candidate than one with an experience of Bachelor's degree and 3 years, but also a PMP certification? Some employers think so, but it would be encouraging to believe that, in a professional world, employers can see beyond certain credentials. However, as times change in the world of project management as also must project coordinators.

Thus, simply management courses project that lead to recognized credentials internationally and PMP certification are worth the effort. Draw attention to your CV and get in the door of the most important interview where can impress an employer with your knowledge and experience.

The benefits of the PMP certification to his career as a project manager

PMP (Project Management Professional) certification is offered by the Project Management Institute (PMI) for those interested in becoming a project manager certified. Certification is the final step for project managers win more lucrative projects due to high demand of administrators of certificates. Many companies require a project manager for the PMP certification to be hired for a project. Almost all government contracts related to the project managers will not accept an offer from someone who is not the PMP certification. In addition, coordinators of projects that are certified PMP made more than 40% more per year in salary base than without it.

The requirements to be properly certified PMP are fairly strict. It is not only necessary to pass an exam consisting of 200 questions, to also display a certain number of hours as a project administrator to obtain the certification. If you have only a high school diploma or an associate degrees, it must show 7,500 hours as a WP to become certified. Those who have reached a degree or higher, must show 3,500 hours as a WP. Both types of candidates must also include a contact reference to demonstrate and verify that participation has 35 hours of training in project management that are required

To find internet resources, and practice tests, it is also one of the most difficult and obscure certifications. Many guides are available to help you pass tests, but not all of them cover the necessary material to be known. PMI has many chapters throughout major cities in the world that offer assistance in understanding better management of projects and prepare them for examination. However, this option is not the best for many due to its proximity to the chapter and the cost of the preparation of materials. PMI warns that there are many sites that claim to be legitimate but are not. They say to do research when looking for study materials if not requested by them.

PMP certification: Project "Family Feud management"

The value and importance of PMP certification is a highly debated topic in the project management community. One end of the spectrum defended vigorously the credential as the defining standard for the competition, while the other side sees it as an exercise without sense it means nothing more than rote memorization. Many fall somewhere in the Middle, seeing it as an evil necessary we hope to produce some advantage for its commercialization.

Adding fuel to the debate is the results of a research study published in the daily management of project, February 2011. "PMP as a core competency certification: is necessary but not sufficient" reports the results of a study conducted by Jo Ann Starkweather and Deborah H. Stevenson, systems & Technology Department at Northwestern University information.

The study reports on the assessment of the PMP certification for IT recruiters and corporate executives, as well as a statistical evaluation of the PMP as an indicator of success of the project.

Survey says...

Assessment of the PMP: of the 15 core competencies surveyed, the PMP certification occupied number 11 for it recruitersand # 15 by executives for you (that is last dead right!) Shown below are executives of percentages of the same rating of "Important" or "Extremely important" for each competition.

1 Leadership 95 %

2. The capacity to communicate multiple levels 94 %

3 Verbale skills 87 %

4 Writing skills 87 %

5 Attitude 85 %

6 Ability to deal with ambiguity and change 83 %

7 Work history 69 %

8. The experience of 67 %

9 Ability to climb 66 %

10. Cultural Fit 57 %

11. The experts 46 %

12 Education 38 %

13 Length of previous recruitment 23 %

14 Past team size 18%

15 Certification PMP 15 %

PMP as an indicator of success of the project: there was no statistically significant difference in the success has been reported rates for projects run by certified versus uncertified project leaders when considered across 5 success criteria:

Cost/within budget
In computer programming
Quality / meet the technical specifications
Quality / meet the customer's business requirements
Customer/user satisfaction

So does that mean?

In the words of the leaders of the study, "clearly, the domain of the body of knowledge project management is an important asset in the preparation of professional project managers." The understanding of the methodology is essential to conduct proper management of projects. "However, based on the narrative explanations given by the recruiters IT and executives, its emphasis on capabilities such as the ability to communicate at various levels and the tacit knowledge to know when to exercise leadership and how to do it effectively are critical to the success of the final draft."

So it seems that we, as a community must address the gap that currently exists in our curriculum and training in leadership and capabilities. Recruiters should be most used projection techniques to assess skills and leadership to consider candidates for project management roles. As the value of project management it has evolved from tactical to strategic organizations, so it should be our perspective on the core competencies for success.

Pam Stanton invites you to know the reason of why it fails most of the projects and what can be done.

Project Management Professional PMP certification

The PMP certification exam is offered and by the Project Management Institute (PMI). This organization will be given the professional qualification in project management finally after passing the PMP exam.
