Is Compatible with PMP certified PRINCE2

In the face of it the PRINCE2 method from the trade of the Office of the Government of the United Kingdom and qualification of PMP certification seem to represent two standards for the management of projects on opposite sides of the Atlantic. How to never look a little closer and these two approaches are not only compatible but also highly complementary. Before exploring this in more detail below, it is worth explaining each one in turn.

PRINCE2 is a method of administration. As with all methods that defines three key areas

1) The functions and responsibilities of key stakeholders, including the Executive, project, Senior Manager user, main supplier and the administrators of work packages. These roles and responsibilities are defined in detail and explain fully.
(2) Templates for key documentation necessary for the day-to-day management. These are very detailed and comprehensive, with more than 200 documents.
(3) Fully defined management processes for each stage of the invitation to close

Therefore, PRINCE2 defines what is required to deliver, the steps to follow and the documents to be submitted. In general, it is however less complete on how should be complete PRINCE2 processes. He for example refer to the budget in the home document but does not give any guidance on how to determine this budget.

PMI PMP is based on the PMI BoK Guide to the body of knowledge. Defines a global high-level processes that a project manager must follow and provides detailed instructions about the abilities of an administrator should submit a project. For example, it provides guidance on the different techniques that can be used to estimate a budget. However, as a body of knowledge, not geared as much as PRINCE2 on the roles and responsibilities, documents and needed to run a project.

They complement the PMP and PRINCE2?

For the majority of people are two different approaches to the goal of delivering a successful project. The world seems to be divided between people who believe in PMP or PRINCE2. However, as we can see both approaches can be very useful for project managers because PRINCE2 provides detailed templates and BoK PMP provides the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively manage these processes. Good project managers recognize the value of a wide range of different approaches.

Combining knowledge of different techniques such as the cost estimation, earned value management, procurement with clearly defined roles and responsibilities, templates for project documentation and detailed processes. The combined approach can be an effective approach to deliver successful projects.
